CAPART Projects

The Government of India has been implementing various developmental programmes for improving quality of life in the rural areas. Despite the efforts made by the Government, the benefits has not reached to the rural poor and deprived strata of the community in real terms. Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) since its inception has initiated various programmes in rural development through NGOs in every State. The major focus area for CAPART is livelihood promotion, infrastructure development, skill development and water conservation in a focused manner with a need based and location specific approach.

In this regard, the TNBRD was recognized by CAPART as Nodal NGO to implement the various programmes in Thiruvannamalai and Villupuram districts for five years starting from 1995 to 2000. The major activities carried out by TNBRD were:

  • Installation of 350 nos hand pumps in the blocks in 30 villages both in Thiruvannamalai and Villupuram districts
  • Constructions of Rural roads – Around 134 km of roads have been constructed to connect the villages with major towns for easy mobilization of rural poor.
  • Construction of low cost Latrines – about 150 low cost latrines have been laid out in Kilnelli, cithathur, Thiruvadirayapuram, vembakkam, sumangali and Pillanthangal villages.
  • Trainings on agriculture, animal husbandry and value addition were given to the larger rural mass.
