Project Implemented
Biotech based income and employment generation ventures to SC/ST population of Polur Block of Thiruvannamalai District, Tamil Nadu.
With a view to enhance income, employment and socioeconomic status of SC/ST population, the TNBRD has been implementing the “Biotech based income and employment generation ventures to SC/ST population of Polur block of Thiruvannamalai district, Tamilnadu” since 2012. The project is implemented in 10 villages and 100 farmers were covered in each component. The total value of the project is Rs. 19.40 lakhs.
The major technologies focused in the project are ;
- Vermicompost production Technology.
- Mushroom production and marketing.
- Scientific Goat rearing.
Rashtriya Sam Vikas Yojana (RSVY) – Training cum horticulture exposure visit
The background district initiative under RSVY has been successfully completed in association with District Rural Development Agency, Thiruvannamalai during 2005-2006 involving the total cost of 17.17 lakhs. The Main aim is to address the rural poor regarding low agricultural productivity, unemployment and to fill culture group in physical and social scheme.
Training on various agriculture and allied subjects like vegetable production, Integrated Nutrient Management, Integrated Pest Management, Grafting techniques, propagation of fruit crop, Vermicomposting, Precision farming and flower crops were given to 1500 progressive farmers in Thiruvannamalai district.
In addition to the training, all the farmers were taken to the leading agriculture and horticulture research station all over Tamil Nadu in order to expose the recent trends in horticultural crops.
The outcome and the impact of these training and exposure visits benefited about 60% of the farmers.
Village Development Plan (VDP) with assistance of NABARD
NABARD is set up as an apex Development Bank with a mandate for facilitating credit flow for promotion and development of agriculture, small-scale industries, cottage and village industries, handicrafts and other rural crafts. It also has the mandate to support all other allied economic activities in rural areas, promote integrated and sustainable rural development and secure prosperity of rural areas. NABARD has sanctioned Village Development plan to by adopting Ramachandrapuram Village of West Arni Block in Thiruvannamalai district for three years from 2010-11 to 2012-13
Based on the Participatory Rural Appraisal Techniques, various interventions have been introduced to the farmers for the integrated agriculture development during the period. The major interventions are:
- Introduction of milking machine
- Establishment of turmeric boiling unit.
- Establishment of vermi compost units.
- Programme on tree planting.
- Conduction of Animal Health camp - deworming and infertility management.
- Miscellaneous Intervention - Infrastructure development.
- Direct paddy seeder demonstration.
Banana Bunch Covering with assistance of NABARD
The main aim of Banana bunch covering technology is to produced quality banana fruits of no blemishes, external spots and uniform size. This project has been sanctioned by NABARD with the total cost of Rs.1.24 lakhs. The project emphasize the training of banana growers of Arni and Polur Taluk of Thiruvannamalai district. The major focus of the project
- Cultivation of banana.
- Planting techniques.
- Usage of banana bunch covers.
- High density planting.
- Integrated Nutrient Management.
- Integrated pest management.
- Quality improvement and Marketing.
Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP)
The Entrepreneurship Development Programme are being organized regularly to motivate the farmers, farm women and rural youth to start their own business. This programme is assisted by Women Development Corporation and NABARD, Thiruvannamalai with the total cost of Rs. 3.27 lakhs.
The major focuses of the EDP trainings were:
- Vermicomposting technology.
- Mushroom production technology.
- Home care products.
- Japanese quail and Giriraja birds rearing.
- Quality vegetable seedling production in portrays.
- Fodder production.
- Production technology for tropical fruit crops.
