Flagship programme for SC/ST in Association with NIEPMD


TNBRD Krishi Vigyan Kendras, celebrating the Flagship programme for SC/ST in Association with NIEPMD on 24.05.2022 at Krishnagiri and Thiruvannamalai.



At Thiruvannamalai:

The Tamil Nadu Board of Rural Development (TNBRD) had organized One day Flagship programme for SC and ST in association with National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (Divyangjan) NIEPMD on 24.05.2022 specifically for SC and ST community at KVK, Kilnelli Thiruvannamalai. The presidential address was given by Mr. S. Ramesh, President, TNBRD, Chennai about the importance of Flagship program and explained about the objectives and the necessary of various schemes and benefits for SC/ST. The special address was given by Smt.S.Kanchana, Village Panchayat President, Kilnelli. She extent her thanks to NIEPMD and KVK Kilnelli for organizing the wonderful programme for the benefit SC community.

Mr. S. Gokul, Occupational Therapy, NIEPMD, Chennai had explained about the roles of different rehabilitation professionals and the importance of rehabilitation services to empower a Persons with Disability. He also cleared the doubts and raised by the students and trainees. He also narrated about various schemes operated by NIEPMD for the SC/ST people.

Mr.C.K.Thangamani, District Disability Rehabilitation Officer, Thiruvannamalai talked about different schemes and benefits for PwD and loan and incentives for new business startup. And also explained how to avail those loans and benefits from the governments.

Dr.E.Kalaiselvan, Occupational Therapy, NIEPMD, Chennai explained about reservation, policies and scholarship benefits for the SC/ST and information related to higher studies, Job opportunities and the basic rights. As part of the event, the dignitaries distributed the coconut seedlings to all the participants.


At Krishnagiri:

The awareness training programme started with ‘Thamil Thai Vazhthu’ on 24.05.2022 at KVK, Krishnagiri. Mr. T.I. Ramesh Babu, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), ICAR-KVK, Krishnagiri welcomed the gathering. The inaugural address given by Dr.T. Sundarraj, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, Krishnagiri. Mr. K.L. Samarasam, Senior Advocate, Krishnagiri as a Special Guest and Mrs. B. Shenbagavalli, District Differently Abled Welfare Officer, Dharmapuri & Krishnagiri as Special Invitee for the said programme.

Mr. K.L. Samarasam, explained about ‘SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocity) Act 1989’ in details and basic rights of SC/ST. He explained about the ‘Free Legal Aid’ and ‘Right to Information Act’ in detail. He motivated the participants to educate their children to empower themselves.

Mrs. B. Shenbagavalli, explained about the various Government Schemes for Differently Abled Persons, opportunities for employment and special loans for Self-Employment, availability of Special schools and Aids & Appliances for differently abled persons provided by Government, marriage assistance, information about Scholarships and grants for education.

Mr. C. Jeevaprem, explained about various activities of NIEPMD, Chennai and how to make use of this institution. Method to identify the differently abled children and treatments to be given. Various programmes implemented and different courses provided by this institution.

Mr. D. Gunasekar, Event Coordinator, NIEPMD, Chennai spoke about the need and objectives of the flagship programmme and skill training and employment opportunities for PwD’s belonging to Schedule Tribes.
